The Buff Leghorn is the newest breed at Southern Delights Poultry. Typically, we are dual-purpose large fowl people. However, a couple of years ago, we went to a chicken show and saw a trio of buff leghorns on display. Only one word can describe them: beautiful.
We don't keep birds to appease the public. We keep birds that make us happy and the Buff Leghorns made our jaws hit the floor. The buff color is so pleasing to the eye, and the long sickle and saddle feathers on the males are simply elegant. The hens are egg laying machines.
Leghorns are a Mediterranean breed. They are light weight when compared to other large breed fowl. Leghorns are flighty and skittish by nature, but with regular handling can be gentled. This breed will provide eye candy in the yard while filling the refrigerator with eggs.
